Ammolite Leather Necklace
This casual necklace features an unusual stone called ammolite. Ammolite is an opal-like, organic gemstone found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America. It is made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, It is one of few biogenic gemstones; others include amber and pearl. In 1981, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewelry Confederation the same year commercial mining of ammolite began. This precious stone sits in a sterling silver, bezel setting. It measures 15mm in width and has a length of 30mm. It's suspended on a leather cord finish with sterling silver findings. The length of the necklace is 15 1/4" adjustable up to 17 1/4". A smokey quartz bead accents the end of the extension chain.
