Fordite Cuff Bracelet

$ 145.00
This sterling silver, cuff bracelet features a unique cut of Fordite. Fordite, also known as Motor Agate, is old automotive paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished, like the piece in this bracelet. It's formed from the buildup of layers of enamel paint slag on tracks and skids on which cars were hand spray-painted and baked numerous times. Over time, many colorful layers were built up, hardened repeatedly in the ovens that the car bodies went into to cure the paint. Some of these deeper layers were even baked 100 times. The techniques that produced these chunks of fordite, are no longer in practice. There is little overspray of paint with the newer method, therefore this material will no longer be created.

This unique piece of Fordite displays layers of glistening paint in red, black, white and pewter/grey that almost mimic the look of a topographical map. It measures 1" x 1 3/4" and sits in a prong setting. The silver cuff can be bent and shaped to the wrist for a snug fit.
