Grandidierite Amethyst Necklace

$ 85.00
This necklace features a stone called Grandidierite, which is one of the rarest minerals on earth, predominantly mined in Madagascar. Its gorgeous, blue/green color is framed by amethyst gems and small, apatite beads. The Grandidierite stone measures 11mm and is suspended between a sterling silver, diamond cut, satellite chain. The length of the necklace is 17 1/4" adjustable up to 19 1/4". An amethyst bead accents the end of the extension chain.
History:

It was discovered in 1902 by French mineralogist Alfred Lacroix, in the cliffs of Andrahomana in southern Madagascar. In honor of another French explorer, he named the gem after Alfred Grandidier, who was the first explorer to describe Madagascar in detail. With a hardness of 7.5, this blue/green stone is extremely rare due to the fact that when pockets are discovered, they are small and become depleted quickly.
