Astrophyllite Slate Necklace

This necklace features a fine specimen of Astrophyllite from Russia. Its rare crystal habit is what gives astrophyllite its name, from the Greek words astron meaning "star" and phyllon meaning "leaf". Blades of these dark, bronze like crystals contrast sharply with the light matrix that the mineral is regularily found in, known as Felsic which is a geology adjective describing igneous rocks that are relatively rich in elements that form feldspar and quartz.

This striking piece measures 25mm in width and 40mm in length, which includes the silver bail. The mineral is suspended by a sterling silver wire which has been oxidized to bring out its rope like texture. A copper bead accents the end of the extension chain.
