These fun earrings feature a rare stone called grandidierite, presented in a heart briolette cut, accented with a coil of sterling silver wire. These teal, green stones measure 11mm in width and hang 18mm in length from long, sterling silver, ear wires.
History of Grandidierite
One of the rarest minerals on earth, it was discovered in 1902 by French mineralogist Alfred Lacroix, in the cliffs of Andrahomana in southern Madagascar. In honor of another French explorer, he named the gem after Alfred Grandidier, who was the first explorer to describe Madagascar in detail. With a hardness of 7.5, this blue/green stone is extremely rare due to the fact that when pockets are discovered, they are small and become depleted quickly.
